Trail description

The hiking trail through the Risnjak National Park begins at Gornje Jelenje from where you start the conquest of the peak of Risnjak at 1,528 metres. You start on a partly tarmac road till the trail which leads you through the locality of Medvjeđa Vrata, over Južni Mali Risnjak from where extends a view of the whole of the Risnjak massif and the hunting lodge. The Risnjak massif with the whiteness of its cliffs rises dominatingly above the greenness of the highland forests. Risnjak is the natural habitat for three large European animals; the bear, wolf and lynx, and it also has 1,148 subspecies of flora within its territory. At the foot of the peak of Risnjak itself you can rest and take a break in the “Schlosserov dom” mountain lodge. At the end of the trail, at the very top of Risnjak at 1,528 metres above sea level, there extend wonderful views of the Kvarner Bay, Istria and the Julian Alps in neighbouring Slovenia, which will stay forever in the memory of every visitor. Note: entrance to the Risnjak National Park costs 45 kuna.
