Krasica path

The path leads to the church at Krasica down the old route which joins Bakar and Krasica, and so from that it took the name “Krasičarski”. On the route to the top you can enjoy the beautiful countryside, and waiting for you at the end is a vantage point which offers a wonderful view of the Bay of Bakar.

Herman’s path

You start the trail from Bakar near the Mareograf tide gauge at sea level. On this path you can see Italian bunkers from the Second World War, as well as Rupnik bunkers. The trail extends to Škrebutnjak and ends at Vela Pliš at 1,141 m from where the whole of Kvarner can be seen which is surely one of the most beautiful views.

Gornje Jelenje – Risnjak

The hiking trail through the Risnjak National Park begins at Gornje Jelenje from where you start the conquest of the peak of Risnjak at 1,528 metres. You start on a partly tarmac road till the trail which leads you through the locality of Medvjeđa Vrata, over Južni Mali Risnjak from where extends a view of the whole of the Risnjak massif and the hunting lodge. The Risnjak massif with the whiteness of its cliffs rises dominatingly above the greenness of the highland forests. Risnjak is the natural habitat for three large European animals; the bear, wolf and lynx, and it also has 1,148 subspecies of flora within its territory. At the foot of the peak of Risnjak itself you can rest and take a break in the “Schlosserov dom” mountain lodge. At the end of the trail, at the very top of Risnjak at 1,528 metres above sea level, there extend wonderful views of the Kvarner Bay, Istria and the Julian Alps in neighbouring Slovenia, which will stay forever in the memory of every visitor. Note: entrance to the Risnjak National Park costs 45 kuna.

Zlobin – Tuhobić

You start from Zlobin, a lovely little village in the area of Bakar, which is located on the border with Gorski Kotar, and head in the direction of Tuhobić. You pass by a chapel with the left path into a forest following the markings on the path and arrive at a crossroads which goes to Tuhobić from Satničko and after 500 m you arrive at a reservoir near which there is a monument to the Tuhobić camp from the Second World War. After 100 metres to the left is the “Srndać” Hreljin hunting society’s lodge where you can take a break and rest. You can choose from two directions to continue the ascent up Tuhobić, so turn right over a ridge for about 40 minutes and you will come to the top of Tuhobić at 1,108 metres from where a wonderful view of the whole of Gorski Kotar and Kvarner (Dragutin Hirc was delighted with this vantage point). To return from Tuhobić you can use the southeast slope which will bring you once more to the hunting lodge.

Panoramic path

The path starts from the Sokolić court at Krasica, and ends on the hill of “Trebestin”. On one part of the path it goes along an old mule track and in this stretch you can see four very well preserved bunkers of the Rupnik Line. The trail ends at Trebestin with a wonderful of the Kvarner Bay and Učka. From the top of the hill you can enjoy the beautiful sunset and Kvarner bathed in countless colours.

Tuna observation posts’ path

The path starts from the beach of Melić which is located on the northeast side of the Bay of Bakar. On the path you can see several tuna observation posts which bear witness to a famous past when Bakar was the centre of fishing in the northern Croatian littoral. The most important and over the centuries the most profitable, Adriatic group of standing tuna fishing posts were in fact in the Bay of Bakar. The last active tuna fishing post was named “Bakarac” and it was used until the mid-20th century. The path continues right beside the sea all the way to Kraljevica and the Frankopan castle. On returning to the starting point it crosses over the “Sansovo” hill and passes by a vantage point from where there extends an unforgettable view of the Bay of Bakar.

Towards the Castle

The path leads to the Hreljin castle which today represents the ruined remains of the mediaeval town of Hreljin, and which rises proudly on a high cliff above Bakarac. On the way to the castle you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Bay of Bakar. After a 15-minute walk you will come across three old reservoirs called “Kalce” or “Lokve”. At the very end, you will see the ruined remains of the Hreljin castle from where extends an unforgettable view of the whole of Kvarner.
