Plešivac trail

This adequate footpath of gentle climbs offers the possibility of recreation and relaxation in the natural beauty of the forested landscape to all ages. Its total length of 8.6 km connects Marčelji with Tibljaši, and branches lead to Saršoni, Skvažići and Mladenići and to the highest point – the peak of Plešivac at 429 m above sea level.

Starting from the old school in Marčelji, on a forest path eastwards, towards the village of Biškupi, we need to cut across the Viškovo bypass and the Viškovo-Saršoni road. Along Biškupi the trail extends to a rest area with benches where the paths begin to divide: towards Mladenići, and after about 100 m towards the village of Petrci. If we take this direction, along the way we will see the ruins of Tonjak’s house. If we continue straight on, we can reach Kablari at Drenova. From the bushes, about 150 m from the trail, we will see the remains of Jeberin’s house. If we turn at the next crossing Kablari-Petrci right, we will descend to the Stupari-Drenova road where we should head left, and after about 100 m right again. After a short walk down the road, we arrive at steps, which lead to the bus turning point in Tibljaši.

A cycling trail joins the footpath that leads to Ronjgi the birthplace of Ivan Matetić Ronjgov and the memorial house dedicated to him where many events are held.

Milohni

It is possible to cover the circular, approximately 3 km long footpath that passes along many little valleys and sinkholes in an hour’s light walk and it is the ideal for an afternoon’s stroll.

From the village of Milohni the trail leads through a forested area on a cart track towards Kastav. 100 m after the rest area with a table and benches, turning left it leads to the road and offers the possibility of choosing the next direction: right towards Šporova Jama and the town of Kastav or left towards the village of Bezjaki.

If we choose the left direction, we will go along the deepest sinkhole of Kastav ‘Črni dol’. With an easy climb we arrive at the crossroads which offers interesting possibilities: on the left a forest path bordered with impressive dry stone walls takes us back to the village of Milohni, continuing the direction (straight ahead) we can reach Bezjaki, the village with the beauty view of Kvarner from where there is the possibility of heading towards Srdoči, Zamet or the centre of Rijeka, whereas by turning down the right path we can visit the attractive Kapitovac pond, which has been partially restored and set up for visitors.

By choosing any of these directions you get the opportunity to get to know the famous parts of the Kastav area, and, safety guided by the well-marked trails, enjoy the untouched forested areas.

Lončeva griža trail

Starting from the centre of Viškovo, the 15 km long trail climbs up old forests paths. Above the village of Globići it comes to a pass from where it starts to descend towards Kukuljani. Arriving at Ponikvica, it turns right and on the old Trnovica-Saršoni road it rises again to Lončeva Griža from whose peak there extends a wonderful view of the areas of Kastav and Grobnik, the whole of Kvarner and the mountains of Gorski Kotar all the way to Slovenia.

Here there is an educational trail in three languages (Chakavski, standard Croatian and English) on informative panels which describe the work of the former quarry, and on the wall of the old quarry are exhibited stonemason’s and stonecutter’s tools. Below the vantage point, on the limestone rocks there is also a unique exhibition called ‘View from the Rocks’ by members of the ‘Braća Baštijan’ amateur artists association, inspired by the traditional motifs of Viškovo.

The trail turns to the east – to the ridge of Lubanj and above the village of Skvažići it descends and crosses the Petrolejska road, turns towards the village of Biškupi, cuts across the Viškovo-Saršoni road and enters a pine forest. Upon arriving at the Viškovo bypass, we return to the start and by turning to the left we arrive in the centre of Viškovo.
